Primary therapeutic area - tympanic membrane perforation (TMP)

Plasminogen has several therapeutic possibilities including wound healing, anti-infection and plasminogen deficiency. The primary focus of Omnio Healer is wound healing. To provide proof of the concept, Omnio Healer has chosen chronic tympanic membrane perforation (TMP) as its lead indication.

Lead Indication

Chronic TMP is an ideal first wound indication because the condition is well-characterized, it is easy to measure treatment results, a well defined patient population is available, extremely small drug quantities per patient is required and there is no placebo effect involved.

Medical need

Chronic TMP is currently treated only by a surgical procedure, myringoplasty, at a reimbursement cost of up to US$ 8 000 per procedure. However, eight out of every nine subjects in a German study disliked the prospect of being surgically treated for chronic TMP suggesting that there is a considerable need for novel therapeutic procedures. Similar conclusions can be drawn from the prevalence of chronic TMP: in the United States it is estimated that currently 1.5 million people suffer from chronic TMP, compared to the estimated annual number of myringoplasty procedures that is 50 000 patients.
